A synonym for Lord Vishnu, Syamantaka Villa is a retirement retreat for an elderly couple residing in Dubai. The love for the homeland brings them back. We worked on a spare palette, clean lines and finest natural elements. Keeping in mind the requirement tending towards tranquillity, the clarity of space, emphasis on light, simplicity of proportion was paramount. We derived the material concept by harping out the most elementary system - The Binary. The villa was to have 2 elements -Limestone and Ashwood. Limestone encompasses both interior and exterior areas and Ashwood in form of veneer or solid wood combine to create a bright and tranquil ambiance.
The idea was to reduce the villa’s entropy to minimum possible. This was achieved by the usage of a single stone whether it is the exterior, the bedrooms, or the bathrooms. The interaction between inside and outside is strengthened by the choice of continuity of the material, with the use of a single stone for the entire bungalow, inside and outside. The angles of sunlight vary throughout the day and year.
Light freely moves within the space, generates dappled shadows, which interact with different areas and provide the occupants with surprising and playful experiences. Quiet art deco details run throughout the house in ceiling mouldings and railings.
